Blair Garber, the Republican 9th Congressional District State Central committeeman, said today (Wednesday) that he will resign from his post as chairman of the Illinois Lottery Control Commission.
Garber, of Evanston, is alleged to have written in a recent Twitter post that East St. Louis, IL, where U.S. Senator Dick Durbin attended high school, is the “sh–hole of the universe!” In a different Twitter post he is accused of writing that, “Serial killers and mass murderers are all democrats (sic).”
These allegations about Garber were reported this morning by CapitolFax, an online news organization that reports mainly on Illinois government issues. That report led to several calls for Garber to resign from his lottery position that he was appointed to by Gov. Bruce Rauner in 2016.
Among those calling for Garber’s firing from the lottery job is State Rep. David McSweeney, who represents the Western suburbs, and Illinois Attorney General candidate, Democrat Kwame Raoul, who issued a press release today.
The 9th Congressional District includes a large part of Des Plaines, portions of Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Prospect Heights, Niles, Park Ridge and Glenview in the Journal, and communities east to Lake Michigan. The district is represented in Congress by Democrat U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky.
Garber declined to confirm if he had written the posts and the reason for doing so.
