British Airways has come under fire for sexism after releasing an advert pinned to the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The company, over a picture of women weeping during a sleepover, wrote: “That’s it girls – he’s taken…
“Now go and find another kingdom with a prince still single. The world is your oyster.”
Then, BA advised women to buy flights to countries including Luxembourg and Dubai.
In Luxembourg, 25-year-old Prince Sebastien remains single, and in Dubai, Sheik Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, 35, has not yet married.
The airline refuted claims this was sexist, telling the Telegraph it was simply “celebrating” the upcoming nuptials.
Nicole Valentinuzzi said on Twitter: “H ello British Airways this is not the way to inspire women to travel in 2017 thanks.”
Another Twitter user said: “Good lord… who thought this was a good idea?”
EasyJet also came under fire for a tweet, in which it wrote: “In search of your Prince Charming? No princes left here. Find your Prince Charming somewhere else.
“Sebastien of Luxembourg, Philppos of Denmark and Greece, Joachim of Belgium”.
One angered Twitter user replied: “Who would even think of this? Where’s the corporate message telling men there are plenty more Meghans in the sea?”
Some pointed out that contrary to claims by the airlines, Prince Andrew is single.
A spokesperson for British Airways said: “Like many great British companies, we want to celebrate the engagement of the happy couple this week.”
An easyJet spokesperson said: Like the rest of the UK, we are hugely excited about the Royal announcement.
“Our advert is gender and orientation neutral and is designed to speak to all easyJet customers about our great value flights across Europe.
“At easyJet we don’t stereotype, we embrace diversity.”
