Ian Watkins ‘groomed’ a two-year-old girl’s mother from behind bars.
According to The Sun, the 40-year-old exchanged letters with the 21-year-old woman — who has not been named — and had visits with her at his high-security jail, HM Prison Wakefield.
Ian, who is the former frontman of popular Welsh rock band Lostprophets, is currently serving 35 years behind bars for child sex crimes, including planning to rape a baby. He groomed young female fans so that he could gain access to their children.
Lostprophets disbanded in 2013 after Watkins was charged in late 2012. The following year he pleaded guilty to 13 sexual offences. His two co-defendants, who are the mothers of children he abused, were jailed for 14 and 17 years.
The woman he has been writing to has been a fan of his since she was age 16.
The outlet reported that when she visited him in prison, he told her he loved her and asked her to wear an engagement ring which she had purchased.
She also admitted that during one visit he made a comment about her young child seeing her have sex, The Sun reports.
She reportedly told a friend that she would not let Ian near her daughter, but the child has since been taken into custody and the woman’s phone and laptop have been confiscated by police.
A spokesman for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children told the newspaper, “This is an absolute shambles. We’re sickened. It’s utterly bewildering that he could carry on grooming. It shows contempt for children he abused, and raises serious questions about supervision.”
