Mollie Tibbets Kansas City: Kearney police investigate possible.
Authorities in Kearney are investigating a possible sighting of Mollie Tibbetts, a missing college student from Iowa.
The possible sighting happened in the area of Missouri 92 Highway and Interstate 35.
An employee at a truck stop in the area says she came face-to-face with a young girl who appeared to be Tibbetts.
On Sunday, officers in Kearney responded and spoke to witnesses and reviewed video footage. The evidence is now in the hands of authorities in Iowa.
Tibbetts, a 20-year-old University of Iowa student, hasn’t been seen since going for an evening jog on July 18 in Brooklyn, a community of about 1,400 people where she was living.
The girl’s family is expected to speak to the media Thursday and investigators are expected to provide an update Friday.
She was up late doing homework on her computer the night she vanished, according to family members.
“Mollie was a friend to everybody,” said Kim Calderwood, her aunt. “There wasn’t anybody that she wouldn’t bring into her world with love.”
One employee at the truck stop told KCTV5’s Rudy Harper that she came face-to-face with a young girl who appeared to be Tibbetts.
More than 200 leads have been investigated.
