Woman drives car onto Little League Field, kills Vietnam veteran, police say.
A Little League Baseball game turned tragic Saturday when police say a woman drove a car onto the field, and, while leaving, struck and killed an elderly man.
Police in Sanford, Maine say Carol Sharrow, 51, is facing manslaughter charges following the accident, according to a CBS News report.
According to the report, several players were on the field, and “more than 200 people” were in the stands, when police say Sharrow drove her car through a gate and across the field.
According to WGME-TV, the victim was identified as 68-year-old Douglas Parkhurst. CBS Philly says Parkhurst was a Vietnam veteran.
Justin Clifton told WCSH-TV he witnessed the accident.
“After the car got off the field, (the driver) came to the gate, and the older guy pushed the kids right out the way. He took the hit for the kids,” Clifton told the station.
