Girl scout $3 returned 14 years later: Paige Woodie was just 12-years-old.

The year was 2004 and Paige Woodie was just 12-years-old.

Her summer still involved going to the beach and hanging out with friends.

As a Girl Scout she believed in doing what was right, so when she found $3 at the beach, she turned it in to police.

An idealistic young girl, just doing the right thing and so the $3 was quickly forgotten from the young girl’s mind.

14 years later, Paige Woods got a knock at her door. It was Monmouth Beach Police.

“And they handed me an envelope and they said here’s your 3 dollars back,” said Paige.

“I think it’s always good to do the right thing and even if it’s a little late, late better than never,” said Sgt. Jeff Godwin, Monmouth Beach Police.

The police department says it usually returns unclaimed money in 6 months, but this got lost in evidence put up in the station’s attic.

Paige says she is going to split the money with the friend who was with her when she found it.
