Ruby Rose has shared her thoughts about Javicia Leslie taking over as lead for “Batwoman” Season 2 after she decided to leave the series and revealed more details about her departure from the show.
Rose said she was thrilled after learning that Leslie, who will be playing an entirely new character named Ryan Wilder, would be the new heroine of the series. In fact, she congratulated and wished the new “Batwoman” star well after she nabbed the titular role.
Rose added that she believes Leslie is the perfect choice and producers couldn’t have chosen a better actress for the role.
“She looks amazing, she’s going to be amazing. I can’t wait to see season 2,” Rose told Entertainment Tonight after seeing the first look at Leslie in the Batsuit.
“I do know that’s the old cowl,” she continued. “So obviously she’s gonna take that over for a bit. I can’t wait to see when they kind of adjust and make the changes for her as well. I think It’s gonna look sick.”
A few days ago, Rose also sat down for a virtual interview with SiriusXM’s “The Jess Cagle Show” where she shared more details about why she left the series. The “Orange Is the New Black” star said she loved playing Batwoman and stressed that parting ways had been a mutual decision between her and the producers.
“I had a great time on Batwoman. I am so proud of what we achieved. We set out to achieve something pretty significant, you know, the first-ever live-action Batwoman and the first-ever, out gay superhero, her and Kate Kane,” Rose said.
“And I love that character and the whole experience, but we did have a discussion and we sort of mutually agreed that probably what was best for the show at the time was that they go in a different direction and I go in a different direction,” she explained. “It was tough because it was sad cause we will love each other, but also it made sense for so many different reasons.”
Rose added that she is excited to watch “Batwoman” Season 2. She also loves the cast and still keeps in touch with everyone.
“Of course it was both happy and sad — happy because I was really proud of what we did,” she said. “Um, and then sad because I’m going to miss everyone from the show. But I do believe that that’s what was best for the show. And I think that everything we did set out to do, we accomplished.”
