‘The Bachelorette’ 2020 Premiere Didn’t Even Mention Clare Crawley Got Engaged On One of Their Shows

Bachelor Nation got a great recap of Clare Crawley’s love life and former adventures on the series during Monday night’s premiere of The Bachelorette. There was something missing, though: any acknowledgment that Crawley was engaged before—an event that took place during the final episode of Bachelor Winter Games in 2018!

Crawley’s introduction spotlighted her time on Juan Pablo Galavis’s season of The Bachelor, as well as her two loveless stints on Bachelor In Paradise. But what the show didn’t reveal is that Crawley did have a moment that looked like her happily ever after on the show. And we aren’t the only ones wondering why.

Dedicated Bachelor Nation fans know Bachelor Winter Games aired in 2018 alongside the Winter Olympics. It was a sports-themed spinoff that watched Bachelor stars from around the world bunk up in a cozy cabin and find love. Crawley found herself in two relationships during the series. One was with her future fiance, Benoit Beauséjour-Savard.

They didn’t end filming together. Crawley actually broke Beauséjour-Savard’s heart and he left the show alone. But when the cast reconciled on a “Tell-All” special, it was revealed that the pair reconnected digitally. Beauséjour-Savard got down on one knee and popped the question. Crawley said yes, and the world barely heard of it again.

Maybe it was because of the spinoff. Or maybe, because Beauséjour-Savard and Crawley didn’t share any kind of romance on social media after their February 2018 engagement. The next thing the public heard from the couple was the announcement of their split on Instagram in April 2018.

The couple never revealed the reason for their split, just that they’d decided to part ways with genuine respect for each other. The respect does seem to have lived on, as Beauséjour-Savard congratulated Crawley on her new season as the leading lady.

So why didn’t The Bachelorette acknowledge Crawley’s engagement? Twitter users can’t help but wonder who decided to casually ignore the fact that Crawley has been given a Neil Lane diamond like so many who’d come before her.

It could be that the series is hoping to spotlight a new engagement for the 39-year-old. If you’re looking for spoilers, we have the details on Crawley’s new love story here. What we know is that this storyline, featured in Season 16 of The Bachelorette, doesn’t seem to look anything like what’s come before…Crawley involved or not.

ABC Reality Chief Robert Mills addressed the confusion on Twitter during the episode premiere. “We didn’t have time for the footage but fun fact: Clare and Benoit are the best of friends!” he wrote.

We’ll take it. But still seems a bit suspicious to leave out what was once the most important day of Crawley’s life…so far!

The Bachelorette premieres Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
